There are still many businesses unaware of the money they could save through the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) Government Grant. There are several grants available through OZEV for places of work and public authorities. Although there is money to be saved, there are eligibility criteria that need to be met.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the various OZEV grants, you will need to meet certain requirements. These vary between the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) and the On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).
Workplace Charge Scheme
This is a voucher-based scheme, providing support towards the upfront cost of buying and installing EV changepoints. Registered business, charities and public sector organisations can be eligible. To be eligible proof of off-street parking, landlord consent and proof that a chargepoint is need are required. The full list of requirements and the process can be found here.

On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme
Councils and other local authorities can benefit from funding towards the cost of installing on-street chargepoints for residents. OZEV has allocated £20 million of funding for the scheme to help build a charging infrastructure across the UK. Eligibility is dependent on project type and funding can vary. Due to this every application is different. For more information on ORCS visit the Government website.
Benefits of OZEV
Money off – Government funding has been put in place to help homes, businesses and councils build a better charging infrastructure across the UK. Approved installers – OZEV approved installers meet a level of criteria giving you peace of mind that your charger will be installed safely and to a high standard. Supporting early market adoption – Using OZEV helps support the Government with early market adoption of ultra-low emission vehicles. This will also help boost the charging infrastructure needed to keep EV’s moving well into the future.
What if you don’t want to use the OZEV grant?
The Government has put the OZEV grant scheme in place to help people financially, move to electric. However, not everyone will be eligible and, in some cases, may not come close to the £350 available. For those not looking to use the OZEV grant, there is a larger selection of chargepoints to choose from. Due to eligibility criteria not all charging points are OZEV approved meaning you have more choice not using the grant.
