Which electric car has the longest range?

Electric cars are becoming more popular by the month as the UK begins to switch to a more sustainable form of motoring.

The average range for a diesel car is 43 miles per gallon and petrol is 36 miles per gallon. This means that the average cost per mile to drive a car in the UK is currently 47p! So, we can definitely see the appeal of switching to an electric car to save money on the record prices of fuel.

Which car gives you the most mileage for your money?

Does ‘range’ mean the same thing for EVs as it does petrol/diesel cars?

What is a range? Simply, a range is the distance a vehicle can travel before it runs out of fuel or charge. In newer cars, you may see an approximation on our control panel of the exact mileage remaining. This is calculated based on the amount of fuel left in the tank or charge left in the batteries.

Uswitch conducted a survey of 1000 drivers in January 2021 to find out what would make them too nervous to take the leap and buy and electric car.

The number one reason was fuel fear. One in three drivers interviewed said the number of local and/or accessible charge points wouldn’t be enough to make them feel safe enough to buy an EV.

The Winner

The Long Range version of the immensely popular Tesla Model S has the longest range of any EV in the UK. With its 100kWh battery, you can enjoy up to 405 miles at a cost of £74,000.[1]

For a more cost-effective Tesla, the Model 3 Standard Range Plus has a range of around 305 miles for £43,000.

A more cost-effective option

If your pockets aren’t quite deep enough for a Tesla, WhatCar? describes the Skoda Enya iV as a “shining example” of why you don’t need to spend fortune “to accept mediocrity when you buy an electric car”. This SUV gives you up to 333 miles for £32,000!

How quickly can you charge an EV?

Typical home chargers have a power rating of 3.7kW or 22kW and EVs have a maximum charge rate, meaning they charge at the maximum amount they can accept. Rapid chargers are most efficient, charging your vehicle in 20-30 minutes to provide a mileage of between 60-200 miles.

How can you charge your EV at home?

To charge your electric car safely and effectively at home, you need a home charging point installed where you park your vehicle. Fortunately, you have come to the right place! Charge and Recharge offer a simple and efficient service to install an EV charger in your home or business. Enquire here today.
